ThermClad: Main features

ThermClad is our insulated brick slip system built around our own high-density XPS insulation boards in various thicknesses with channels pre-cut for the brick slips. Using XPS insulation boards to carry the brick slips reduces costs and increases thermal performance through the wall, resulting in reduced U-Values and lower heating costs.

The ThermClad insulated brick slip system can be used as a low cost, high impact, retrofit solution for external walls of existing properties. It is also widely used to finish off ICF (Insulated Concrete Form) projects and in the modular and offsite sectors where the combination of insulation and natural brick finish are particularly sought after.

Installation

The ThermClad brick slip system offers a fast and simple solution for retrofit brick slip installations as well as for modular and timber frame brick slip requirements. It is also well-suited to ICF type construction projects.

The ThermClad system can be installed directly to any sound, dry substrate providing the substrate is flat and level. When used as a retrofit insulation measure over existing brick or blockwork, the walls should be rendered with a reinforced base coat (e.g. RB1F by ProofShield)

When used to provide an insulated brick facade for modular or timber framed buildings, ThermClad is typically installed directly to sheathing with underlying framework at 400mm centres

System Components

The ThermClad insulated  brick slip system comprises of the following components:

  • XPS brick slip carrier boards (35mm to 100mm options)
  • Carrier board fixings (to substrate)
  • Brick slips and corners
  • Brick slip adhesive
  • Pointing mortar in a range of colours
Options available:
  • Brick slips: Wide range of types, colours and surface finishes available. See Brick Slip page for inspiration
  • Pointing mortar: High flex pointing mortar is specified as standard and should always be used in place of regular sand and cement mixes. Multiple colours available
  • XPS brick slip carrier boards can be offered in thicknesses from 35mm up to 100mm subject to minimum order quantities

Brick slips for Insulated Concrete Form (ICF) projects

The ThermClad insulated brick slip system can be fixed directly to the external walls of an ICF building, providing additional thermal insulation as well as a real brick finish in traditional or modern styles without the need to employ brickwork contractors.
